Finding destiny in a cache

When you hire Geoteaming, you hire the leaders and innovators in geocaching team building.

First, we want to share with you the story of why we started geocaching and how we help companies create a fun and easy way to improve team dynamics and performance. Then we will give you five irrefutable reasons Geoteaming is THE company to hire for your next team adventure.

Geoteaming started in 2001 when founder, John Chen, led a group of people to perform one of the most challenging feats a human can do: summit a mountain. He called this The Journey. During that first trip, 23 people summited 14,410 foot Mt. Rainier. Each person fulfilled personal goals and experienced a life-changing adventure.

Then 9/11 happened

Geoteaming did The Journey twice and then 9/11 happened. Those of us in the U.S. knew nothing would ever be the same after that. And for many businesses, the phone stopped ringing.

John sat in his office, wondering what to do next with this company he had just launched. Then he received an email from his advisor, Dr. Simon Priest, PhD, with an article about geocaching. Simon asked, “Wouldn’t this make a great team building event?”

John looked up geocaching.com and found a cache in Magnuson Park, which was only one mile from his house. (If you look, you’ll usually find a cache within one mile of your current location.) A friend had given him a GPS device as a gift, so he grabbed it, went to the park and geocached for the first time. He located the cache, a hidden container near beautiful Lake Washington, and discovered his future destiny: Geoteaming.

What exactly is geocaching?

Geocaching is the recreational activity of hunting for and finding a hidden object, known as a cache, using GPS coordinates.

Why Geoteam? You don’t have to climb a mountain to experience a life change

John realized the experience was just like his big adventure, The Journey, except that it took only 10 minutes instead of three days. And geocaching isn’t the risk that climbing a mountain is! He formed a partnership with the founders of geocaching.com. Geoteaming has contracted with some of the world’s biggest geocaching fanatics for its events, including one of the top 10 geocachers in the world who has more than 40,000 finds.

Where will we go? Geoteaming will take you places you’ve never been before – we promise
